Today I had a chance to sit in at a Morehouse College Leadership Lecture Series with the infamous Steve Stoute. For those who do not know who he is, Steve Stoute is an author, entrepreneur, advertising executive, american record executive and artist manager. He recently wrote a book called The Tanning of America: How HipHop created a culture that rewrote the rules of the new economy. I learned a lot on the achievement of success and the need for translation among all demographics and passion in whatever you may pursue.

He arrived in Halifax, Canada, on a boat with his parents after escaping communism in the former Yugoslavia. As he says, he had but “one suitcase, few prospects, $20 and no understanding of the English language.”
Starting out delivering newspapers and waiting tables, Herjavec launched a computer company from his basement, became an entrepreneur, and eventually sold one of his businesses to AT&T and another to Nokia for $225 million.
If you aren’t watching Shark Tank, you’re missing out on an invaluable crash course lesson in business negotiation.

There was big news in heaven. Michael ran to heavens gate and said, ”Whitney what are you doing here?” and she said ”I came to sing a duet with you.” Aaliyah said “I want to be in it too!” Marvin, Teddy, and James asked if they could also step up to the mic. Tupac said “I’ll throw a rap verse to that and Biggie and Eazy E can spit the second verse.” Etta, Luther and Ray said “What about us?” and of course Heavy D said “I got nuttin but love for ya Whitney!” All of a sudden Nate Dogg dropped a hook and Don Cornelius announced. ”This is the hippest trip in paradise!”
So! If you’re hearing thunder today it’s cause there’s a party in heaven!
RIP all you greats!!! ♥

They hail from Oxnard, Calif., to Portland, Maine, and several spots in between. They are scientists, artists, entrepreneurs and agents of social change. The Root’s 2012 Young Futurists are our future.
After a nationwide search, The Root’s staff selected these 25 African-American innovators, ages 16 to 22, for its second annual list. This year’s Young Futurists are working in their own unique ways to make our world a better place in the fields of green innovation, science and technology, arts and culture, social activism and business enterprise.
Many of them meld their concern for their communities or the world at large with their own academic or professional interests — whether it’s Ariel Harden, a science major from Spelman College who was inspired, after seeing her mom struggle with cancer, to find a way to make treatments less harrowing. Or Brandon Turner, a 2012 Rhodes scholar who wants to use his research to stamp out diseases that disproportionately affect disadvantaged communities. Through her jewelry company, Shomari Patterson donates jewelry-making kits to a shelter for women rescued from the sex trade.
Black History Month is a time to celebrate our past and look to our future. There is no better moment than now to highlight the accomplishments of these extraordinary young people. We will feature one 2012 Young Futurist every day in February.
